I recently had my lawn mower serviced because it wouldn't start. The repair shop made recommendations of additional replacements items such as a tire, belt, oil change, etc. If I didn't go along with the recommendations, then my repair was going to the back of the line. I went with the repairs/recommendations and still my mower was heldup because now the shop had to order the part which they recommended. They ran my bill up.

I brought my echo chainsaw to them for service. I know I'm not a corporate account, but was hoping for some help. I ran the saw on regular gas, used the wrong gas can. I was afraid I'd ruined the motor. I was patient. Called after two weeks to see if there was any news (see update). Nope, not yet. At least another week later I called back, they had to check and call me back. On the return call was told I needed to replace the upper part of the motor. It was expensive and I wanted to think about it and weigh that against a new saw. I took it home without getting the fix. Got home and my brother in law (mechanic) asked to try and start it on a whim. It started right up and ran great. Tells me they didn't even look at it. They were going to charge me hundreds on a saw they hadn't even looked at. Trust is gone.

Update: The owner called to respectfully speak with me about my experience and was able to pull up phone records that change my timeline to a shorter period. This is possible. I did stop by at one point to check on the status (probably was not recorded) and was never given information that my saw was examined. There may be damage to the saw and Tool Solutions assumed I needed work, which is understandable, but not to actually look at the saw and make a diagnosis is not acceptable. I came away with the impression that it wasn't a job they wanted, for one reason or another. I have engine experience although I am now a woodcrafter (worked as a mechanic apprentice for a short time, managed an auto parts store for two years and took college engine classes) and could tell the saw had not been looked at. I don't feel they were completely honest with me.
