I have been a patient of Dr. O'Laughlin for just over a year. I had an Ortho doctor that preformed thousands of dollars worth of procedures on me, nothing worked.

I ended up getting a referral to Dr. O'Laughlin from my primary care nurse practitioner. Dr. O'Laughlin spent more time in that first visit then the Ortho doctor did in the 2 years I saw him (including the surgery procedures he preformed). The Ortho doctor had no idea what was wrong with me, he was just winging it, and made me his guinea pig. Turned out I had no Ortho problems.

Dr. O'Laughlin was able to diagnose my real problem. Dr. O'Laughlin's care has been the best I have ever had, my pain has decreased by 95%, it will never totally go away because of my diagnoses.

While most M.D.s give you only 5 minutes of their time, this physician takes the necessary time to listen and explains what is going on in your body as well as your course of treatment. In short, Dr. O'Laughlin cares about his patients and partners with you in your care. You rarely see this high level of care anymore and you leave with more knowledge and understanding than you walked in with. He understands.

Wonderful Dr. in Pain Mgmt I went to him many years. Dr. O’Laughlin is very well versed in Fibromyalgia, testing procedures, generalized pain. You might have to wait a longer time but after he listens to your pain needs which took a lot of his time, he’s definitely a Dr. worth your wait!

I have not seen him for a few years, I moved to Northern CA and still needed a pain mgmt Dr in Chico CA. I ended up in the emergency from a drs neglect with serious complications I will live with for the rest of my life, under the care of the Chico Dr came extremely close to dying! Never have seen such unprofessional inadequate themselves being former or still using drug addicts!

Dr. O'Laughlin is highly knowledgeable and helps you understand your condition. He actually takes time to get to know you rather than treat you like a number.

And the staff here are exceptional! Hard to come across a dedicated staff who actually call you back when they say they will, and who are polite and courteous.

What a breath of fresh air! I came from a pain control doctor who triple-booked patients; sometimes I waited two hours or more; sometimes I was taken back and told he was in another city so it’d be a wait. The clerical personnel were young girls who had difficulty with prescriptions, passing along information to providers, appointments or anything that required change. My appointment involved an aid telling me my BP was 120/80 (nope) and the doc would be in shortly (definitely, nope!) When he arrived he would ask how the medicine was working and no matter what you said your comments were unheard. Time with the doctor? 11-12 minutes, OR LESS.You were much better if if treated by the NP’s.

Enter the office and the staff of Dr. Tom O’Laughlin. No difficulty with the referral or the appointment—Sharon made sure it was done and prompted me to complete my medical history documents in detail. My first appointment with three other pain control doctors were under 15 minutes each (and that’s being generous). Dr. O’Laughlin wanted and got THREE HOURS. He went over my history, all aspects of my pain, my lifestyle—details, documentation, and studied my prior MRI’s and X-rays. He did something most doctors had never done and certainly no pain control doc had ever done: He asked “Where does it hurt?” He touched me—going thru muscle groups and nerve locations. He knew me and my condition very well by the time I left. Compassion. Taking the time to explain the how’s and why’s. He was educating me. He listened—carefully.

Dr. O’Laughlin is a brilliant man. He’s constantly increasing his knowledge. His writing and his speaking events educates others, making good practitioners better. Many of his papers have been published. He loves the hard cases, probably why he was the Director of San Joaquin Rehabilitation where any medical malady can show up. Brilliant yet compassionate and caring—two traits not often found together.

Junkies and pill-sellers? Forget this office. He’s and Sharon have been around too long. Plan on a urine test before each treatment.

Kristin works the front desk and phones and has some initial patient contact. She is nothing short of amazing. I was a person to her, not a patient file. She is always polite, professional and empathetic.

Sharon is the Office Manager and is the powerhouse behind the efficiency of the office. She is an effective consultant with the Doctor and in many ways, a patient advocate, as well. She knows medicines, health care plans and insurance companies and every hurdle that may be encountered (and how to deal with them!)

I’m pretty laudatory of the office and staff. But, I am sincere. I’ve dealt with multiple pain control doctors of the last 40 plus years and I am so excited and refreshed to have been lead to this doctor and his wonderful staff.
