I joined Alex’s 4-day Winter Mountain Pioneer course as a beginner and had the best week. I learnt so much, had a bunch of fun, and was made to feel safe and confident. Alex has a really great teaching style, he is super positive and patient. Alex was also very creative in making sure we covered everything we needed to despite a week of challenging weather.

Cannot recommend highly enough for anyone looking to level up their skills and safety in their outdoor adventures. The whole course is excellent.

Thank you Alex for a phenomenal experience. My apologies in delay for the review of the ‘Highland Scrambling Adventure’ but this experience was not far from my thoughts for the last few months.
My time spent in the Cairngorms unlocked the youthful sense of adventure I thought was long gone. The thread of safety underpins the four days and Alex‘s friendly but professional style suited me well.
I refreshed old skills but also learnt many new things - knots, navigation, kit, more safety habits but now am left with a what next for the new year? I will be back (said with an Arnie accent)
Went straight from Aviemore to North Wales tested out some of the new skills and got a pat on the back for my navigation.
Once again, thank you Alex for taking the time and running an excellent course. I look forward to catching up in 2025.

Alex is definitely an expert in his field yet retains a warm, authentic and approachable style in his teaching. This was just an excellent course, you learn lots of skills whilst you have fun and enjoyment. A great balance of gaining knowledge whilst still having an amazing experience. I arrived at the 4 day winter skills course a total novice and hugely lacking in confidence. After spending 4 days with Alex, under his tutelage and patient, calm demeanour, I achieved things I didn’t think possible and have left with a new found confidence and belief.

Alex’s knowledge about all things climbing, the mountains, and all things outdoors is immense. He is friendly and patient with his teaching methods and makes even the most nervous of students feel safe and reassured.

I cannot wait to get out in the hills again and try out my new found knowledge and belief, and I also cannot wait to return to another one of Alex’s courses in 2025.

It really is the best money you can spend and the best investment in your climbing, hiking, scrambling journey you could make.

I simply cannot speak highly enough of this man or recommend one of his courses any more enthusiastically than this. You will not go away disappointed.

I recently attended the winter mountaineering course with Alex and experienced one of the most memorable trips to the mountains of my life. Alex is an incredible teacher, passing on knowledge well beyond anything I’d previously experienced. The course is extremely versatile and Alex is able to modify its contents depending on the individual abilities of the group, all the while creating an incredibly friendly and relaxed environment.

Communication was excellent throughout, from the moment I got in touch until well after the course, Alex has provided multiple other resources and information to help with future independent trips.

I’d never climbed with crampons or an ice axe previously. By the end of the 4 days, I felt comfortable in the knowledge and skills I had learnt and had the opportunity to push myself mentally and physically.

A truly incredible week in the mountains with great company.

Alex took my friend and I on a 2 day winter course which was fantastic from the start. He really packed the 2 days for us to learn a massive amount, although it was full on i never felt rushed to learn the new skills. Would 100% recommend him as a guide.
