You’re in the middle West Hollywood, eating a hot dog out of a Giant Hot Dog hut…. Does it get anymore LA! This is dog is very different from Pinks, but also, pretty great! I got the 1946 Split dog with grilled onions and mustard, my husband got the Chili Dog, and we shared some fries and onion rings. The onion rings actually ended up being the highlight of this meal… OMG! Loved the hotdog sleeve too! If you find yourself on Santa Monica Blvd… stop by and grab a dog at Tail O’the Pup.

Tail o' the Pup is a classic hot dog stand that has been around the Los Angeles scene since 1946. As well as with Pinks, it is one of the longest lived hot dog stands in this neck of the woods.
The original stand survives to this day and was in the Beverly center before moving it to WeHo on Santa Monica Blvd.
They offer a variety of food, which is normal fare for the Hot dig stand variety. Burgers, French fries, milkshakes, and the like. Obviously, their specialty are the dogs in which the name of the establishment proudly has in its moniker.
The dogs have a nice snap to them, and are cooked well throughout. You have a variety of different versions available to you such as Chicago, chili, ballpark, dogs famous through their respective years.
The choices are endless.
It's historical. It's a nice nook to escape from the Los Angeles insanity. It's a time capsule of delicious proportions. Come on down and let the Dogs convince you on their own.

We’ve been wanting to go here ever since it re-opened and it didn't disappoint. We are not a huge fan of hot dogs in general, but if we were to go out for a dog, this place is near the top of the list. The dogs had a good snap to them and tasted delish. The chili was peppery with a slight kick; perfect for a topping on the dog or fries. Plenty of seating indoors or outside. They even have the coca-cola mix machines so you can create any flavor combo you like. Our only gripe was that it is fairly expensive for the portion size. I expected more fries and a larger dog for the prices they charge. Bathroom was clean. Depending on time of day, parking could be tough.

Nestled in West Hollywood, "Tail of the Pup" is a hot dog stand-style eatery that has been serving customers since 1946. On my recent visit, I was enticed by their vegan offerings, particularly their plant-based corn dog. Though unsure of the exact composition, (it was not soy I did find that out)the corn dog delivered a satisfying combination of a crunchy exterior and piping hot, soft interior.

I had the opportunity to customize my order, requesting a split order of fries and onion rings. Not sure if they will always do this but I asked nicely 🙂 The onion rings, prepared in a beer-battered/tempura style, offered a pleasant crunch, while the fries impressed with their crispy texture and well-seasoned taste. The staff was accommodating when I asked for clarification about a vegan option on their menu, and the Cashier quickly grabbed the manager to figure it out

In addition to the food, I enjoyed a quiet dining experience on the upstairs balcony, soaking in the ideal weather while listening to their throwback 2000s & funk playlist.

This review is based on my 2 visits there. The first was dine in and the other was take out. Dine in the food tasted great but during my take out everything was burned or had an off flavor. In both instances my order was incomplete. During dine in the workers just needed to be reminded about my order. As I was back in my office, there was nothing I could do about my missing item. In all instances the workers were friendly. The quality of food is hit or miss. Good luck.

I have been looking at this hot dog place for a couple of years and finally went and tried it.
I spent about $36 got the Chicago dog. The chili dog and the corn dog and all of them were very good in my opinion. It was definitely better than pinks which. Is way over rated what definitely recommend? A. Spot a little pricey for a hot dog but worth? It.

The 1946 pup was a top notch hot dog so delicious! The corn dog was unlike any corn dog I’ve ever had and the batter was so flaky with a pillowy interior. Competes with Disneyland. Both items are probably the best I’ve ever had. Definitely want to come back here.

It's a hotdog joint. Go big or go basic and as long as you like hotdogs, you'll love this place.
